Frequently asked questions
What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in digital photos. It can include GPS coordinates, camera model, lens information, exposure settings, and the exact date and time the photo was taken.
Can someone find my location from a photo?
Yes. If your camera or phone has GPS enabled, the exact latitude and longitude where the photo was taken is often stored in the EXIF data. Social platforms usually strip this, but email and direct file sharing do not.
Does this tool upload my photo to a server?
No. Your photo is processed entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. It is never sent to any server, cloud, or third party.
What file formats are supported?
JPG, PNG and WebP. The tool outputs a cleaned JPG (or PNG if the input was PNG) with all metadata removed.
Will removing EXIF reduce image quality?
No. The image is redrawn onto a canvas at its original resolution. Only the metadata is removed; the pixel data stays identical.
